Women and men’s clothes, food and jewelry made by women were put on display in the exposition.
Some women, who have put their products on show, say that local authorities in the province don’t support them and that their sales are not satisfying.
In the meantime, Zofnon Husam Natiq, Head of Women’s Affairs Department in Badakhshan states that launch of such exhibitions is actually an effort to present women’s handicrafts to the public and that they have been effective in the past.
Ms. Natiq also says that they need greater backing to introduce women’s handicrafts in foreign markets and that currently Women’s Affairs Department doesn’t have those capabilities.
Craftswomen in Badakhshan say if marketing is made for their handicrafts, their work can create employment for many women which will prove to be effective in lessening poverty and improving economy of families.
